Our Story
The history of this association began in April 2017 when the first Terms of Reference were drafted for the establishment of the Geoscience Business Network (GBN) under the Institute of Geology Malaysia (IGM). Later, GBN was renamed as the IGM-GSM Geoscience Business Working Group (IGM-GSM GBWG) and placed under the jurisdiction of the Joint Committee of IGM and Geological Society of Malaysia (GSM). Abd Rasid Jaapar was the first chairman of this joint committee.
On July 13, 2019, at the National Groundwater Conference 2019 in Shah Alam, a group of geoscience and groundwater service providers held a brief discussion to support the idea of establishing a geoscience business association as an official platform. The geoscience industry and business need a platform to bring together all geoscientists in the private sector from all relevant industries.
The constitution for this new organization was drafted on February 26, 2020. A meeting was held at the Department of Geology, University of Malaya. 19 representatives from geological companies in Malaysia attended the meeting. The meeting agreed to establish a trade organization with the name Persatuan Perunding dan Perkhidmatan Geosains Malaysia (Malay) or Malaysian Geoscience Consultants and Services Association (English), abbreviated as MyGeo. An interim committee was appointed from representatives of seven different states. MyGeo was approved by the Jabatan Pendaftaran Pertubuhan Malaysia (JPPM) on June 19, 2020.
